The Living End, Tadpole, Mobile Stud Unit - The Meteor, Hamilton, NZ, 6/8/99

Get to the Meteor around 8:45pm thinking I'd be in plenty of time to see MSU, however, as I walk in to the main room (which is rapidly filling up) they announce their last song (which is radio friendly, according to Rohan) 'Stu's Pie Cart', with Dudley adding some nice 'doo wop' type backing vocals and Rohan looking stunning in a lime green number.

The only positive thing I can say about Tadpole is that they didn't play for too long, and they got their gear off the stage quickly.

Australians The Living End come on and the decent size crowd of kids up the front go nuts surging and surfing all over the place, keeping the bouncers busy. These guys are really tight and have some pretty fine punk/rockabilly tunes, my pick being 'Save The Day' which far surpassed the version offered on the album. Admitedly there's a fair bit of cheesy stage banter and audience participation vocals ('Prisoner Of Society') but The Living End get away with it because of their genuine enthusiasm and obvious passion for the music they're playing.
