The Faceful, D4, Shaft, The Rock'n'roll Machine - Centennial Milk Bar, Raglan, NZ, 29/01/00
Raglan's Milk Bar was packed to the gunnels for this rock'n'roll extravaganza - Auckland 3-piece The Rock'n'roll Machine kicked it off in fine style with some low down dirty tunes ('Rock'n'Roll Disease' being particularly good) - The Faceful, from Tokyo, Japan went crazy with their delirious 60's inspired rock'n'roll, with singer leaping into the arms of audience members - The D4 who are from Auckland, but sound like they could be from Detroit were in fine form (with a new drummer and their former drummer filling in on bass!) - 'Action Baby', 'Girl' and radio favourite 'Come On' stood out in particular, and finally Shaft brought the evening to a close, blasting out a long, loud set.
Special thanks to John Baker for taking the risk and bringing bands of the calibre of The Faceful out to New Zealand, and also the friendly people at the Milk Bar for keeping their bar prices decent.
